Potential Benefits of Boswellia sacra Resin on Immunity, Metabolic Status, Udder and Uterus Health, and Milk Production in Transitioning Goats

As an attempt to prevent transition-period-associated metabolic disorders and/or diseases, the potential benefits of Boswellia sacra (Bs) resin on hematology, immunity, status, udder and uterus health biomarkers, milk production were examined in transitioning goats. From 2 weeks prepartum 7 postpartum, goats (n = 7/treatment) orally received 0 (control, nBS), (BsL), or 4 (BsH) g Bs resin/goat/day. The results showed that both treatments significantly improved activity phagocytes. Both decreased concentrations blood plasma urea, non-esterified fatty acids, hydroxybutyric acid, interleukin-1β, whereas they increased total antioxidant capacity compared with nBS treatment. uterine horn diameter tended decrease intrauterine fluid content, indicating involution no Compared treatment, somatic cell count. lowest interleukin-1β content was observed BsL followed by those BsH treatments. treatment concentration immunoglobulin M (IgM) colostrum other daily yield but did not affect composition fat-to-protein ratio.
